It had to come to an end hey, eventually. What a banging weekend, off by surprise and therefore able to enjoy the Cardiff summer with you legends. Sun, sweaty workouts and sausages, what else can a man ask for?! 

I have to a quick word, please take this how it is intended, in order to support my team and keep the amazing gym of yours a place that only dreams are made of...

Our aim is to increase your fitness. The intension is to make you all as strong as possible, without it affecting your ability to run a long distance or demonstrate gymnastic prowess; with us you will be weightlifting gymnasts with the lungs of swimmers. And honestly, who doesn't want that? 

Lift heavier loads, do more pull ups (even just the one more), run faster or walk across the gym on your hands; all are tough, but are equally important.

However, more critical than your Fran time: is your blood pressure, resting heart rate and the time taken to process glucose. These factors will come as a result of improved athletic performance, and will be important long after you call time on your workout.

All of the above are positively impacted by one simple thing… The ability to listen to your trainer! 

The team of trainers available to you at CrossFit Cardiff are amongst the best in the world. Fact. Those of you who have ventured into other CrossFit gyms in the past will have witnessed, first hand, how the quality of coaching in CrossFit Cardiff surpasses that in many other boxes. Not just because of the facility and the equipment that is available to you, but because of the coaching!

Getting stronger is easy. Improving endurance is easy. If you follow a strength program, and stick to it, you will get stronger. However, these programs are often based around simple lifts: squats, deadlifts, presses and pulls. Done so purposefully, because other movements and lifts that are more complex, require coaching! 

An experienced and knowledgable trainer watches movement, and distinguishes obvious as well as subtle errors. As a result, they will deliver concise cues in order to make the movement safer and more efficacious. They do this not because they like the sound of their own voice, and not because they are attempting to annoy the recipient. 

They may ask you to slow down during your workout, to make your movement more efficient and mechanically sound. This will help you to use the correct points of performance, thus, giving you a better mechanical advantage over the load. This will ensure your orthopaedic safety. In a nut shell, those cues delivered, are there to help you get fitter and keep you safe whilst doing so!

This is a request from me, please listen to my team. They know what they are talking about. Do not ignore them, they are trying to help you. Do not argue or use obscene language. Save your breath for the workout you’re doing.

Instead, work to implement the change, and a few things are likely happen: you will lift heavier, you will go faster, the movement will feel better, and…you will get much fitter.

Happy Friday!! And not just any Friday, but pre-bank holiday Friday!! 
All weekend, the gym will be open as per usual, but below are the specific timings for Monday. 

Monday - 10:00 - 11:00 Open Gym
                 11:00 - 12:00 WoD


If you rock up outside of those hours, the workout is...5 Rounds of: 400m run, rest 3mins. 
If you rock up inside of those hours and are still drunk from your Super Sunday Session, expect the coaching staff to laugh at you while you vomit in the bushes.

One athlete will accumulate calories on an assault bike, once his/her partner has finished one round, they switch. 

Once you have wiped the sweat from your eyes, please write total calories and total rounds and reps to the whiteboard...

It's up, the very best workout that I think I have even done, maybe, there have been a few!! Loud and proud on our whiteboard. The only thing missing now are budding volunteers who are (WO)MAN enough to give it a pop. 
I did at one, point last night, honestly fear for mine and Al Conroy's relationship. I thought it was over! No more Brewdog fuelled sweet nothings, no more Wednesday night coaching fun, not even The Notebook of Fitness...just a set keys on the front desk, not even a note to say goodbye.
All because of the assault bike. 
Anyway, its fun, you should do it!!

*start the workout with the clean and jerks.

Is it just me, or is this year flying by. I bet if you copied and pasted that sentence into google you'd get a few blog posts come back at you. It's true though, when there are this many kick assed, fun workouts to do to keep you busy, the weeks just blitz by! 

How much fun was it running in the sun? And leaving the gym in daylight...man I love the summer!! Long may it continue please Mr Fish.

What the hell are you supposed to do with 15 extra hours at Charles De Gaulle airport in Paris. I have easily beaten the world record for the amount of rides on the train which connects terminals 1, 2 and 3 together, the novelty soon wheres off. 
Luckily, the French transportation system is firmly on strike and so I have been unable to fill my boredom by buying a shit ton of expensive assed electrical products that I neither need nor can afford. However, Starbucks, as much as I hate them, have remained strong, at least one of them has. Providing me with as much caffeine as I can handle and a comfy (ish) chair with an exceptional view of a man, who is drunk/high enough to think that the shiny grout between the floor tiles is actually a slack line. Until the he had the dogs set on him, quite literally, was fully committing to walking the whole thing in a oner and without spilling his absinthe!
Good pissed bloke!!

So team, how was your weekend? I hope you drunk enough espresso martini's to forget how much of a dick Jackie's mate was, just not enough to cause you to lay awake all night, high on caffeine, but with the room spinning due to all the alcohol! 

Welcome, well rested and just like a good friend of mine says..."young, dum and full of..." Well rested unless of course you have utterly thrashed yourself in the gym (your fault not mine! ;-)) today. 
Rock up, smiling, get after this "beautiful" workout, hard and aggressively. Relish in the fact that I gave you a full week OFF the ass bike...but Conroy (blame him), decided to smash you with it. His fault, not mine! HIM!!! It's a good job he is so fracking lovable!!

I ran into Swifty while travelling back from Denver last week, he was clearly less hung over than me and so had gone to CrossFit Roots to train. The gym owned by former CrossFit HQ Seminar Staff Flowmaster, Nicole Christiensen, is a long standing affiliate, famed for professionalism and excellence.
Swifty, also a HQ Seminar Staff Flowmaster (we were at a flowmaster meeting) and also Master's Games Athlete, told me about it...I immediately smiled an evil smile. At signifiant altitude, he completed the WoD sub 12, at the young age of 48. Can any of you beat him??

The only thing that I have changed about this workout is the name, if they named it at Roots, it certainly would've been less offensive! ;-)

HUMP DAY!!! You will be descending into the latter half of the week with a smile on your face, in the knowledge that the weekend is nearly upon us, and doing so quickly should you be sliding down the hump in my back left over by those deadlifts! 

That workout was inspired by an old Hero WoD from the CrossFit Mainsite. It was designed to be long and gnarly. By the looks of you lot tonight (and me earlier), it achieved the intended stimulus.

Following an absolute mental meltdown of a weekend, a few of the coaches have mush for brains. However, once it has all settled in and we have gotten our heads around it all we will start asking you to touch your toes, twist and turn, so that we can lunge you into an oblivion. 

Thank you to Phil and Jowsey for leading such a shit hot and informative seminar. You have just left a group of crossed eyed and brain fried people in the wake of your excellently functioning bowels! Cheers team! 

Tomorrow we will welcome some cool assed folk for the very first time, and do so with a kick assed partner workout. If you see them, get yourself over and say hello, ask them where they come from and what their dogs names are!

Apologies for last nights shitty post team, I was trying to do it on my mobile and it was not easy! Especially after Castro had rammed a few beers in my hands! 

This Saturday and Sunday we have a seminar on at the gym, and so therefore we will not have our usual Saturday morning class,  mad and mental, #notebookoffitness WoD. Sorry. 
We will however, hold a Team WoD on Sunday night at 6:30pm though. All are welcome, along to get their weekly shitfest! A little like tomorrows…
